Christmas is coming early for startups in the mhealth scene. In the past week announcements of 5 innovative and groundbreaking companies have received funding totaling nearly $40mil ($39.2mil to be exact). First it was Gain Fitness, then WellnessFX now Life Image, Sotera Wirelss and Life360.
Life Image (Newton, MA) is a company started in 2008 focusing on putting medical images onto the cloud where it can be accessed anywhere by anyone that has permissions. They have raised a 8million round after their prior $12mil series B round. Then another $5 mil series A round. Making the total funded at around $25mil.
Sotera Wireless (San Diego, CA) a company focused on wireless vitals monitoring for hospitals, secures 12.2 mil in series D funding for anticipation of FDA clearance. On top of funding, they also have developed a partnership with Cerner (which is a huge deal and raises barriers to entry to competitors and reduces barriers for themselves. EPIC, Allscripts maybe forced to make a move.) Sotera Wireless was previously known as Triage Wireless.
Life360 (San Francisco, CA) a company that focuses on location based family safety app that runs on smartphones, secures $3.5mil from
Fontinalis Partners, Bessemer Venture Partners, 500 Startups, Kapor Capital, Venture51, Bullpen Capital, Social Leverage and EchoVC Partners (mobihealthnews)
Life 360 has free and premium apps which are able to locate family members (free), emergency identification, identity protection, lost item recovery and communication.
